TURNER PRIZE 2019: SOLIDARITY AND COLLABORATION

Themes of Solidarity and Collaboration as Turner Prize 2019 has been awarded to a collective bringing together the four nominated artists.

‘At this time of political crisis in Britain and much of the world, when there is already so much that divides and isolates people and communities, we feel strongly motivated to use the occasion of the Prize to make a collective statement in the name of commonality, multiplicity and solidarity – in art as in society.’

Clearly the moment of the collective is upon us. As a rejection of the neoliberalist ideal of individualism and competition the four artists nominated for the Turner in 2019 (Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Helen Cammock, Oscar Murillo and Tai Shani)  rejected any idea of a 'winner' and demanded that they share the prize. The statement exemplifies the unity and positivity there is in numbers right now. In the face of so much chaos groups who can are using this as an opportunity for growth and adaptation. Another example of an 'anti-fragile collective'.
