WHAT'S NEXT? CHAOS AS A CATALYST

WE PRACTICE PHILOSOPHY, WHERE THE SHOCKS OF THE NEW MANIFEST AS OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH. Anti-Fragile Manifesto 2020

Following our primary research in August we spent the summer feeling and thinking and talking to others.  Everyone was having a very different experience of CV19. Much of this was due to the generation you are part of, your health, both physical and mental, and your contextual privilege, the virus is not democratic; and with the race issues playing out over the world and the global crisis placing Californians as "Climate Migrants" due to the fires in August our experience of being human, all too human, of being in a body that is linear and somewhat fragile took precedence.  Connection or isolation with each other also foregrounded our experiences, the clapping that took place in March and April brought communities together and provided a moment of collective joy and grateful solidarity that was experienced democratically.

What began to surface, at least for those we were talking to, was the joy of being human was invested in connection and in those snatched joys of being human, moments when through a wall of fear something beautiful emerge, of having today, this was to be savoured, to show gratitude for and essentially to be a strategy one must nurture. For many those weeks when work stopped and nearly all needed to slow down and the shops shut, we learnt how to be with each other again and in the sunshine we saw an alternative from consumerist desire and the 24/7 pace of life. In not knowing what was in store tomorrow we embraced the day. And what we realised was that we needed to eke out pleasure where and when we could, and that this pleasure was a pleasure vested in connection, to each other and in our relationships with ourselves. This new enforced way of being was The Anti-fragile in Practice.
